Multicloud Egress Hidden Cost Estimator

Surface cross-cloud and CDN egress surprises before architecture lock.

Estimate monthly egress dollars from cross-cloud, internet, and CDN transfer — with editable unit rates.

How it works

  1. Enter monthly GB for cross-cloud, internet egress, and CDN — plus optional total cloud spend.
  2. Pick a region-pair profile and edit unit rates — monthly egress $ updates live.
  3. Use architecture tips before lock-in; unlock a printable summary with a work email.
Transfer volume & rates

Directional egress model — edit rates to match your provider price list.

How the model works

  1. Category cost = GB/month × editable $/GB for that category.
  2. Region pair preset updates default rates (same / cross-region / multicloud).
  3. Monthly total = cross-cloud + internet + CDN costs.
  4. % of bill = monthly total ÷ known cloud spend × 100 (when spend > 0).

All math runs in your browser. Validate with a pilot month of metering.

FAQ

How does the egress cost estimator work?

Enter monthly GB for cross-cloud transfer, internet egress, and CDN. Pick a region-pair profile (or keep defaults) and edit unit rates. The model sums monthly egress dollars and optionally shows % of your known cloud bill.

Why do region pairs matter?

Inter-region and inter-cloud transfer rates vary widely. Same-region private peering is cheaper than public internet across continents. The preset adjusts default $/GB for a typical pair class.

Are the default rates accurate?

Defaults are directional averages for planning — not a quote. Edit unit rates to match your provider price list or negotiated contract.

What about ingress?

Most hyperscalers do not charge ingress the same way as egress. This estimator focuses on egress and CDN egress, which usually dominate surprise bills.

How do I reduce egress spend?

Colocate chatty services, cache at the edge, compress payloads, prefer private interconnects, and avoid chatty cross-cloud sync. Architecture tips appear in the results panel.

Is this a binding cost forecast?

No. Use it to catch hidden transfer costs before architecture lock. Validate with provider pricing calculators and a pilot month of metering.
